The Kumasi Centre for Collaborative Research in Tropical Medicine (KCCR) welcomed students from the Department of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology at the University of Cape Coast (UCC) on Friday, 5th June 2026, for an educational visit aimed at enhancing their practical understanding of biomedical research and laboratory science.

The visit provided the students with an opportunity to gain firsthand exposure to modern laboratory techniques, ongoing research activities, and state-of-the-art equipment used in biomedical sciences. Through guided laboratory tours and interactive sessions with researchers, the students learned about the application of molecular and microbiological techniques in addressing public health challenges.

The students were introduced to KCCR’s mandate, research focus areas, and contributions to infectious disease research, diagnostics, and capacity building in Ghana and beyond. They also observed how laboratory findings are translated into evidence-based interventions that support disease prevention and control.

The visit formed part of efforts to complement the students’ academic training by bridging the gap between classroom learning and real-world research practice. It also provided valuable insights into career opportunities and the role of scientific research in advancing healthcare and public health.

KCCR remains committed to supporting the training and mentorship of the next generation of scientists by providing opportunities for students to engage with cutting-edge research and innovation.
