The Sankofa Lab, in collaboration with the Kumasi Centre for Collaborative Research in Tropical Medicine (KCCR), the Linde Packman Lab for Biosciences Innovation at Colby College, and the Mount Desert Island Biological Laboratory, organized a two-week Sankofa STEM Fellowship biomedical bootcamp for high school graduates.

This year’s fellowship brought together 17 graduates for an immersive introduction to biomedical research, providing them with hands on experience in entomology, bacteriology, and parasitology through both laboratory and field-based activities.

Beyond the practical research experience, fellows also participated in career development and science communication workshops, engaging with local and international scientists and students pursuing careers in STEM.

The fellowship provides an important platform for young people to explore biomedical science, develop practical research skills, and gain insight into potential careers in science and healthcare.

Through this collaboration, Sankofa Lab, KCCR, Colby College, and the Mount Desert Island Biological Laboratory continue to support the development of the next generation of scientists by connecting young learners with real world research experiences.

KCCR is proud to contribute to initiatives that inspire young people, strengthen STEM capacity, and nurture future researchers in Ghana and beyond.
