INSPIRING THE NEXT GENERATION: IDERG ENGAGES SCHOOLS ON WORLD MALARIA DAY

May 4, 2026

As part of World Malaria Day 2026 activities, the Infectious Disease Epidemiology Research Group (IDERG) at the Kumasi Centre for Collaborative Research in Tropical Medicine visited Bethelinter Academy and Good Shepherd Basic Schools to engage young learners in the fight against malaria.

Through interactive sessions, the team educated students on malaria transmission, prevention, and the importance of personal and community protection. The discussions encouraged active participation, allowing students to ask questions and better understand how simple actions such as using insecticide-treated nets and seeking early treatment can save lives.

Educational flyers were also distributed to reinforce key messages and extend awareness beyond the classroom into homes and communities.

The outreach highlights the importance of empowering young minds with knowledge, recognizing that informed students can become strong advocates for healthier communities.

This initiative forms part of KCCR’s broader commitment to community engagement and public health education, ensuring that efforts to combat malaria reach all levels of society.

Driven to end malaria. Now we can. Now we must.
