As part of activities marking World Malaria Day 2026, the Infectious Disease Epidemiology Research Group (IDERG) at the Kumasi Centre for Collaborative Research in Tropical Medicine extended its impact beyond the laboratory by engaging directly with communities to promote malaria awareness and prevention.

At Tech Junction, the team interacted with drivers, traders, and passersby, distributing educational materials and sharing practical information on malaria prevention, early detection, and control measures. The outreach created an opportunity for meaningful conversations, helping to address misconceptions and encourage proactive health-seeking behaviors.

Similar activities were carried out at field sites in Agogo and Assin Fosu, where community durbars were organized to foster open dialogue and deepen public understanding of malaria. These engagements brought together community members, enabling interactive discussions on the importance of prevention strategies such as the use of insecticide-treated nets and timely treatment.

The initiative highlights the critical role of community engagement in the fight against malaria, reinforcing the idea that sustainable progress depends not only on research and innovation but also on informed and empowered communities.

Through these efforts, KCCR continues to demonstrate its commitment to translating research into action and strengthening public health awareness at the grassroots level.
Driven to end malaria. Now we can. Now we must.
