The Infectious Disease Epidemiology Research Group (IDERG) at KCCR successfully organised a 3-day intensive hands-on training in molecular techniques and bioinformatics for A-level students from ENAS Hybrid School. The training aimed at introducing young scientists to practical laboratory skills and infectious disease research, as well as giving them exposure to advanced molecular techniques.
The training captured the activities below;
- Good Clinical Laboratory Practices (GCLP)
- Precision pipetting
- DNA extraction
- Real-time PCR
- Conventional PCR
- Gel electrophoresis
- Sanger sequencing
- Sequencing data analysis
- Detecting mutations relevant to antimalarial resistance
The training was led/facilitated by Welbeck Odame Dzadey, James Osei-Mensa with the support of Diana Ofori Amanfo, and Bernard Blessing Nuhoho.
This initiative underscores our commitment to early capacity building, mentorship, and nurturing the next generation of molecular scientists.
