October 12, 2026

The Kumasi Centre for Collaborative Research in Tropical Medicine (KCCR), alongside researchers from the Bernhard Nocht Institute for Tropical Medicine (BNITM), Germany, paid a courtesy call on the management of St. Francis Xavier Hospital in Assin Foso on 9 October 2026.

The delegation included Prof. Alexander Yaw Debrah, Scientific Director of KCCR; Prof. Jürgen May, Board Chair of BNITM; Dr. Oumou Maïga-Ascofaré, Group Leader of the Infectious Diseases and Epidemiology Research Group at KCCR; and researchers from BNITM.

The delegation was welcomed by Sister Georgina Donzing, Sister in Charge of St. Francis Xavier Hospital.

The visit aimed to strengthen the existing collaboration between KCCR and the hospital and explore opportunities to further enhance their partnership in research and healthcare.

The engagement also provided an opportunity for Prof. Alexander Yaw Debrah to formally introduce himself to the hospital’s management following his appointment as KCCR’s new Scientific Director and reaffirm the Centre’s commitment to the partnership. He mentioned that the collaboration is a win-win situation for both KCCR and the St. Francis Xavier Hospital.

As part of the visit, Prof. Debrah also met with KCCR staff working at the Centre’s satellite Clinical trial Unit and the laboratory located within the hospital, engaging with the team and gaining further insight into their activities.

The visit underscores the importance of collaboration between research institutions and healthcare facilities in advancing scientific research, strengthening laboratory capacity, and contributing to improved healthcare delivery in Ghana.
