KNUST VETERINARY STUDENTS VISIT KCCR TO DEEPEN UNDERSTANDING OF ONE HEALTH

March 19, 2026

Students from the School of Veterinary Medicine at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology visited the Kumasi Centre for Collaborative Research in Tropical Medicine on Wednesday, 18th March 2026, as part of an academic engagement aimed at strengthening their understanding of OneHealth concept and exposing them to cutting edge research activities.

The visit began with an introductory session highlighting KCCR’s mandate, research focus areas, and its contributions to advancing tropical medicine and global health. Facilitators emphasised the importance of the One Health approach in addressing emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases, particularly those transmitted between animals and humans.

A guided tour of selected laboratory facilities formed a key highlight of the visit. Students observed laboratory workflows, biosafety practices, and modern diagnostic techniques used in infectious disease research. This hands-on exposure provided a practical dimension to their academic training and broadened their appreciation of laboratory-based research.

The visit also offered students the opportunity to interact directly with scientists and research staff, gaining mentorship insights and career guidance in research and public health. Many students expressed enthusiasm about the experience, noting its relevance to their academic and professional development.

This engagement underscores KCCR’s ongoing commitment to capacity building, mentorship, and knowledge exchange, as well as its dedication to nurturing the next generation of scientists through collaborative learning experiences.

The session concluded on a high note, reinforcing the critical role of interdisciplinary collaboration in advancing the One Health agenda in Ghana and beyond.
