Kumasi Centre for Collaborative Research in Tropical Medicine Congratulates Prof. Alexander Debrah on his Appointment as Scientific Director

KUMASI, GHANA – July 13, 2026 – The Kumasi Centre for Collaborative Research in Tropical Medicine (KCCR) is delighted to announce the appointment of Prof. Alexander Debrah as its new Scientific Director, effective August 1, 2026.

Prof. Debrah’s appointment ushers in a new chapter in KCCR’s pursuit of scientific excellence and innovation. A distinguished scientist and internationally acclaimed researcher, he brings decades of expertise in tropical medicine, neglected tropical diseases (NTDs), clinical research, and capacity building to the role. His groundbreaking contributions to biomedical research have not only earned him global recognition but have also significantly advanced disease control efforts across Ghana and sub-Saharan Africa.

This leadership transition comes at a pivotal moment as KCCR continues to solidify its reputation as one of Africa’s premier biomedical research institutions. The Centre’s portfolio is expanding rapidly across critical areas, including infectious diseases, antimicrobial resistance, molecular diagnostics, genomics, and global health.

KCCR also extends its profound gratitude to Prof. Richard Odame Phillips for his exemplary leadership and dedicated service as outgoing Scientific Director. Under his stewardship, KCCR strengthened its research capacity, expanded its network of strategic partnerships, and enhanced its scientific output, laying a robust foundation for future growth. His remarkable contributions will have a lasting impact on the institution.
