The Kumasi Centre for Collaborative Research in Tropical Medicine welcomed A-Level Biology students from the International Community School on Thursday, 23rd April 2026, for an immersive educational visit focused on laboratory observation and scientific learning.

The visit began with an introductory session where students were taken through the mandate of KCCR, its core research areas, and its role in advancing tropical medicine and global health. This was followed by an engaging theoretical session on key laboratory techniques, including DNA extraction, gel electrophoresis, and other fundamental molecular biology methods, providing students with a solid scientific foundation.

Building on this, students proceeded to observe these techniques in practice within KCCR’s laboratories. Guided by researchers and technical staff, they gained firsthand insight into laboratory workflows and how these methods are applied in real world research, particularly in the study of infectious diseases.

The interactive nature of the visit allowed students to ask questions, engage with scientists, and explore potential career pathways in science, research, and healthcare. Many participants expressed enthusiasm about the experience, noting its impact in enhancing their appreciation of biology beyond the classroom.

This engagement highlights KCCR’s ongoing commitment to STEM education, mentorship, and capacity building, as the Centre continues to inspire and nurture the next generation of scientists.

By opening its doors to young learners, KCCR reinforces its role not only as a leading research institution but also as a hub for knowledge sharing and scientific inspiration in Ghana and beyond.
