February 13, 2025

The SPI-BIOPEDTB Project is a GSK Africa Open Lab-funded project that aims to improve childhood tuberculosis (TB) diagnosis in Ghana by implementing and evaluating a sputum-induction algorithm. The project also aims to investigate immune biomarkers in children with pulmonary TB.

The project is a collaboration between KCCR, Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Kumasi South Hospital, and Maternal and Child Health Hospital. Samples will be collected from these sites and analyzed at KCCR’s laboratories.

A recent training session was held at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) on 11th February 2025 to enhance the capacity of clinicians for safe sputum induction in pediatric tuberculosis diagnosis and discuss project implementation workflow.

Dignitaries present included:

Dr. Ernest Adankwah (Principal Investigator)
Dr. Sandra Kwarteng (Co-Principal Investigator)
Prof. Anthony Kwame Enimil (Study Coordinator)
Dr. Felix Kodzo Besah Sorvor (National Laboratory Focal Person, National Tuberculosis Program)
