The Kumasi Centre for Collaborative Research in Tropical Medicine (KCCR) welcomed a high-level delegation from BMZ, the German Embassy, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), KfW, and the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) on 17 September 2026 for a project visit.
The delegation was welcomed by KCCR’s Scientific Director, Prof. Alexander Yaw Debrah. The visit provided the delegation with insights into developments and cooperation in Ghana’s pharmaceutical sector, while highlighting KCCR’s cross-continental collaborations and the added value of international partnerships in strengthening pharmaceutical research and innovation.
Discussions also focused on the impact of German funding and international cooperation, with particular attention to how such support contributes to strengthening local research capacities, developing sustainable systems, and generating tangible results in Ghana and beyond.
Led by the Scientific Director, Prof. Alexander Yaw Debrah, the delegation toured KCCR’s laboratories and research facilities, gaining firsthand insights into the Centre’s research activities, laboratory capabilities, and contributions to health research and capacity development.
During the tour, Prof. Debrah highlighted some of KCCR’s key research achievements and milestones, including the Centre’s significant contribution to postgraduate training and the development of the next generation of scientists and researchers. He noted that, over the years, KCCR has trained numerous postgraduate students who have gone on to contribute to research, academia, public health, and health systems development in Ghana and beyond.
The engagement also provided an opportunity to showcase how partnerships between Ghanaian and international institutions could support knowledge exchange, skills development, scientific research, and sustainable capacity building.
The delegation comprised representatives from BMZ, the German Embassy, GIZ, KfW, and PTB.
KCCR appreciates the delegation’s visit and the continued commitment to international cooperation, research, innovation, and capacity development in Ghana’s health and pharmaceutical sectors.
